Don't let your legacy crumble, it seems every month now I find myself clicking on DA profiles I once adored watching only to find the artist they belonged to having sanitized them with the unholy flame of total deletion. I've read many a wall post describing to the world why, and yet in over a decade I've yet to read an excuse that validates such an extreme measure.
Of all the threats to our creative pursuits, non rivals the self destruction we as artists wrought upon ourselves. I promise you, that your old works never become "cringe" in the eyes of old fans or under the gaze of new lurkers. I assure you there are no greener pastures to move your works to. If the call of instant gratification and the allure of vapid attention spans of sites like X and other non art social media sites pulls strongly enough to up route you from such vintage sites as this, please. Please don't purge your accounts, leave them up as a testimony. Think of art sites like horcrux. Sure, each piece you upload forces a part of your soul to be split and time from your life to be lost, but if you must diversify! The internet is a constantly fluctuating place. There is no guarantee any server or site will still be up in 15 years. So spread your content far and wide. Invite as many people to see and experience it. There is nothing to gain making a statement of disinterest from one site by burning your works. Because when you burn your works you kill more than any one piece of your art, you burn all those who enjoyed it to.
For every piece you post and no one leaves a comment. Think about how many heart felt comments that same watcher may have left on a previous artist's works only to find one day all of them where deleted along with the pieces they once coveted. Many of us, myself included struggle with forming our thoughts into words. It is so much easier for me to draw a picture to compile my emotions and interests than through text. I spent more time writing and re-writing this message this morning than I would spend making a fully colored finished piece.
Remember that before you purge your accounts, you delete so many other's little pieces of literary feed back. They just might not feel the urge to do so on the next one they see, if they know there is no permanence to what they fall in love with being there tomorrow.
